Ring of Ireland Black Rhodium Openback

Sale price€175,00

This is the Sterling Silver version of The Ring of Ireland with a Black Rhodium Finish. It is a unique piece to Blacoe Jewellers, designed to reflect the rich history and culture of Ireland. The ring features a series of symbols, each representing a key part of Ireland’s identity and heritage across its four provinces: Connacht, Ulster, Leinster, and Munster.

A black rhodium finish on jewellery is a dark, shiny coating made by plating the piece with black-colored rhodium, a rare and durable metal from the platinum family. It gives jewellery a sleek, modern, and edgy look while also helping protect the metal underneath from scratches and tarnish.

It’s popular for adding contrast and over time, the finish may fade and need re-plating to maintain its appearance. The plating can also be stripped if over time you would like to have the ring back to its original Sterling Silver colour.

The icons:

WAVES: Show that Ireland is an island. The movement of the waves reflects the energy and reach of Irish culture around the world.

MAP OF IRELAND: Highlights Ireland’s natural beauty, its rivers, lakes, peatlands, mountains, and valleys. The four provinces also reflect its deep cultural, historic, and sporting identity.

SPIRAL FROM NEWGRANGE: Comes from the entrance stone at the ancient site of Newgrange, which is older than the Egyptian pyramids. It represents the link between Ireland’s past, present, and future.

DOLMEN: These large stone structures, often found on hills, were ancient burial places. They symbolise the journey from this life to the next.

SHAMROCK: A well-known Irish symbol, used by St. Patrick to explain the Christian Trinity. It shows the blending of old Irish beliefs with Christianity.

ROUND TOWERS: Built by monks in early Christian times, these towers had two purposes: to worship God and to protect against attacks, especially from Viking raiders. Many Irish towns began as Viking settlements.

HIGH CROSSES: These crosses mark graves and old places of worship. Their detailed carvings are also seen in Ireland’s old metalwork and books.

HARP: Along with the shamrock, the harp is a key symbol of Ireland. Unlike the religious shamrock, the harp stands for Irish culture, music, and storytelling.

CASTLES: Represent a turning point in Irish history. Stone castles replaced older Irish homes like ring forts. Many Irish families later lived in these castles. The famous Blarney Stone, said to give the "gift of the gab," is believed to have come from the Holy Land during the Crusades.
