Exclusive to Blacoe Jewellers, Handmade and Designed by our Goldsmith Robert Blacoe, this '14 Tribes of Galway Band' showcases the coat of arms from each family. Featuring the Wild-Atlantic Wave.
The Tribes of Galway were 14 merchant families who dominated the political, commercial and social life of the city of Galway in western Ireland between the mid-13th and late 19th centuries. They were the families of Athy, Blake, Bodkin, Browne, D'Arcy, Deane, Font, Ffrench, Joyce, Kirwan, Lynch, Martin, Morris and Skerritt who later adopted the term 'The 14 Tribes of Galway' as an act of defiance against Cromwell forces. These Irish family's spoke Gaeilge as their first or second language.
Quite like the Story of Galway collection, our tribal ring collection is a celebration of Galway's history. Each ring has the 14 coat of arms of each of the original families.
